Farringdon Residents Association

The FRA (Farringdon Residents Association) was founded in February 2007 by a group of residents of Farringdon in Devon, concerned about a series of proposed developments that were felt to be threatening to the well-being of many of the people of the parish. By late May, just over 50 households, representing nearly half of the Parish, had joined as members.

It was very quickly recognised that unlike many other local parishes, Farringdon had no Parish Plan, which meant that an important and official means of presenting the view of the residents to the planning authorities was missing. So one of the first initiatives of the FRA was to start such a project, which is now up and running independently of the FRA by the Parish Plan Project Manager, and has its own page on this website.

Currently the main activities of the FRA are focussed on pulling together the opinions of the residents in order to present a concerted front to the various local government bodies handling the immediate planning issues. The FRA has also taken ownership of some of the actions that came out of the Parish to resolve high priority issues. So far these are:

    • Litter pick-up planned for 14 Dec 2008 at 10am. Please contact fra@farringdondevon.com to volunteer. It should take less than 1 hour  per route and there will be mulled wine and cakes at the village hall afterwards. Bright vests, sacks and pick-up stick will be provided. Children are very welcome if accompanied by an adult.

• Welcome Pack

The FRA has put together a Welcome Pack for new residents. It contains information about all local facilities, including local businesses. If you would like to request additions or corrections, or if you would like a hard copy to give to a neighbour who does not have internet access, please email fra@farringdondevon.com. To read the pack, please click here.

• Partners and Community

Our Neighbourhood Policing Team is gathering information about the concerns of people in our

neighbourhood so that they can work with you and their partners to take actions to tackle them. This is part of a bigger Partners and Community Together (PACT) initiative. To contact the FRA to do this on your behalf, or to make any other useful suggestions to the FRA, please click here.

Reasons to contact the FRA:

 • To raise issues and/or actions for the Parish Plan

 • To volunteer for any Parish Plan actions

 • To ask the FRA to lobby bodies such as EDDC on your behalf

 • To modify the Welcome Pack

 • To pass a village concern onto the Neighbourhood Policing Team

 • To suggest village events the FRA could organise

 • To volunteer for the regular litter pick-up activities

• Hill Barton Liaison Committee

The FRA is now represented on the Hill Barton Liaison Committee. The aim is to be a conduit between the Residents and the businesses, especially those dealing with dealing with waste and minerals, ensuring that the impact on Residents, and their feedback, is communicated. • Chairman's report - March 2008

The AGM was held on Friday 28th March following the first year in existence.

Although there was only a smallish gathering of members, there was lively debate about the direction in which the F.R.A. should go in future.

With big changes forecast in the future of Devon it is very important that organisations such as the F.R.A. are fully involved with the consultations taking place to create new areas for housing, commerce and gypsies or travellers.

The F.R.A. combined with the Parish Council and the Parish Plan will actively contribute to these discussions and the views of Farringdon residents will be taken into account, so please support your F.R.A.

The F.R.A. is looking to creating more social events to link people in the Parish and ideas were put forward at our meeting. If any of you have suggestions please contact any Committee member.

I would like to thank all the people in the last year who have helped and supported the F.R.A. and trust that this organization will grow and always be a benefit to all the people in Farringdon.
